The Plaza Hotel, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, dubbed "The Belle of the Southwest" when it was built in 1882, presides regally over the Old Town Plaza in Las Vegas, New Mexico… the other Las Vegas. (The original Las Vegas.) Seemingly suspended in time, historic Las Vegas, NM is about the same size it was when Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders held their first reunion at the Plaza Hotel in 1899. The Old Town Plaza tops Bridge Street where shops supply almost every need, from toys to books to custom jewelry to antiques to original art and much more. The Plaza Hotel, Las Vegas NM is one of the most beautifully restored New Mexico Hotels! Las Vegas has more than 900 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Plaza Hotel is the crown jewel of them all. It was lovingly restored in 1982, and has become Las Vegas' premiere place to stay for both travelers and business people, and is a very popular locale for meetings, parties, conventions and other events. |

The Lodge Resort and Spa - http://www.thelodgeresort.com Cloudcroft. 1911. Originally constructed in 1899 by the Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway as a by-product of the railroad's search for timber and railway ties, the resort of Cloudcroft became an immediately successful mountain retreat...a cool reprieve to thousands of overheated Texans. (Remember that New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arizona were not states at the time.) Owned and operated by the railroad, the resort's initial building was a pavilion (now the Pavilion, a Bed and Breakfast at The Lodge with reception and ballroom.) On June 13, 1909, a disastrous fire destroyed The Lodge. But by 1911 The Lodge had been rebuilt and reopened on its current, more scenic site. Since then it has undergone numerous renovations, but the initial appearance remains almost unchanged. |
