The Edmund Winston Pettus Bridge, viewed from the rear balcony of the St. James Hotel. The bridge is a civil rights landmark, and is less than a block west of the hotel. The small yellow building in the foreground is the bridge keeper's house for the old revolving bridge that predated the Pettus Bridge. The old bridge is long gone, but the bridge keeper's house remains and has been restored.
